Scavenge was inspired by my love of nature and recycling. For this piece, I wanted to create an ensemble that was fully biodegradable (besides the closures) and could be composted back into the earth when finished wearing. To achieve this, scrap muslin (that would have normally been thrown away) was used to create the shoulder pieces, linen to create the body of the top and canvas to create the shorts. Fabric was naturally dyed using plants that were either grown at the University of North Texas in the Fibers' Natural Dye Garden or found in nature on my grandparents' property in Illinois. The plants used for eco-printing are still within the top and within the hanging details on the shorts.
